Chris McCabe retires

Player who broke his leg in the Stafford game last February. Not been officially announced for some reason but he's posted this on our forum tonight:

Just wanted to come on and say its been an absolute pleasure to play in front of you and i want to thank you for all of your support over the last 6 year. I had a conversation with mick about two weeks ago and sadly i decided i would call it a day.The leg is healing and getting stronger everyday but the pin in my shin may have to come out and i cant be sure when i'd be back playing. I've had some highs and lows over the years the F.A CUP run was dream come true! Remember i started that run with an equaliser down whitby!!!!, Obviously my leg break is a very low point but i would'nt change any of it! Blyth has or had become my second home i've made some great friends over the years and i've enjoyed every minute of it.I'm posting this now just to let you all know what the situation was as its been nearly 2 weeks since i made my decision and it still seems nothing has been posted on the website which is alittle bit disapointing! Thanks for everything see you at the back post! Tadge

Heard that after the recovery was initially going well he's had some set backs and the swelling has gotten worse. I think he'll be able to play again but I think he doesn't feel he'll be the same player again.

Oh no , i really didn't think there was. I just know what he is like and if he doesn't already know he will be gutted when he finds out . Six years and a career ending injury , i think the least the club could do is to give the man a testamonial.

whilst not wanting to rake up that argument again cos it's all been already said and nothing said further is going to change people's minds, but at the time, i believe the general opinion was half and half (ish) to shocking tackle v 50/50 ball challenge.

Re: Chris McCabe retires

And the reason why the club haven't made any press releases about it become obvious:

Chris McCabe News Update

The club can announce that due to complications in the healing of his broken leg and the desire of the player himself to perform to the standards that we all know he can, midfielder Chris McCabe will sit out the remainder of this season, with the aim to come back fresh and strong for the 2011-2012 season.

It is unlikely that Tadge (as he is known to everyone at Croft Park) will be able to resume full training until Christmas and the player himself feels it is unlikely he would get back to the level of fitness required to play as a box-to-box midfielder in the Blue Square Bet North in remaining few months of the season.

Manager Mick Tait commented “Tadge is a hugely important player to the club and is loved by everyone at Croft Park, he has found the last few months tough, as he wants to be playing for Blyth, to the levels that everyone knows he can.

“I know that traditionally he is a good ‘healer’ from injuries, but obviously this injury was a lot more serious than a muscle pull or strain and he is finding it even more difficult, now that the pre-season is in full swing. He has been to a couple of the games and was very impressed with the look of the new side and is clearly missing the banter in the dressing room and is itching to be involved with the lads on the pitch.

“I have had a long chat with him and we have decided that rather than push it and cause any further damage, it may be best for Chris that he takes the full year to recover, has any additional medical procedures that are required and ensures that the leg is strong and fully recovered so that he can give it a proper go for the start of next season.”

I’m sure that everyone connected with the club wishes Tadge a full recovery and hopes to see him in the 2011-2012 season opener raring to go!

Glad Mick has managed to talk him round. Year and a half is a long time to be missing for but it's better than retiring.

Also good that the club are willing to stick by him and wait 1 and 1/2 years, Well done BSFC.

Chris McCabe Update

The club can report that Chris’ operation to remove the screws in his knee was a success and the player himself feels “100% better”.

Tadge has now been able to up his rehabilitation and started running on the roads to build up his fitness and has even done some basic ball work.

Whilst he is aware that pushing it, could set him back further, he is optimistic that he could be back quicker than first thought.
